Join the Dakota County Historical Society for a new Genealogy Workshop - "Adopt a WWI Soldier."

In 2018, our feature exhibit "Dakota County During WWI" opened to the public. During the research for this project, we discovered a lack of information related to World War I soldiers that served from Dakota County. As an organization, we decided to start a project where the public can assist in identifying and compiling information for those soldiers that enlisted from Dakota County.

The goal of this project is to create a research database that as current and up to date that we can, along with biographical information on each soldier. You do not need to have previous genealogy or history research experience to participate in this project.

We will have volunteers and staff onsite to help explain the project and answer any questions you have. A template will be provided to guide you through the process.

As we complete our merger with the Dakota County Genealogical Society, we are increasing the number of genealogy programs we offer to the public. Genealogy Workshops are a new series this year and will occur three times throughout 2019 and explore various genealogy related topics.
