Join the Dakota County Historical Society for our new quarterly book club, "Books From Our Shelves." Each book selected relates to an aspect of Minnesota history and comes from the shelves of our gift shops.
April's book is "Minnesota, 1918: When Flu, Fire, and War Ravaged the State," by Curt Brown. In 1918, Minnesota residents were confronted with a series of devastating events that put communities to the test, forcing them to persevere through untold hardship. First, the nation was involved in World War I, followed by the influenza pandemic and devastating fires in seven counties of northeastern Minnesota. Author Curt Brown, a journalist and author, explores this monumental year through a variety of engaging stories. For the full Minnesota Historical Society Press summary, please click here.
