Dakota County Historical Society
To preserve, interpret and promote the history of Dakota County.

Possibly the largest site of historic significance in Dakota County is the Gopher Ordnance Works in Rosemount. Built during World War II to produce smokeless gun powder, the plant occupied 11,500 acres of premium farmland. After the War the land was turned over to the University of Minnesota for use as an agricultural experiment station.
