Join the Dakota County Historical Society and professional genealogist Dr. Fritz Juengling, Ph.D., AG as he presents "German Geography and Meyer's Gazetteer."
Dr. Juengling, Ph.D., AG, will present on German geography and the Meyer's Gazetteer, which is now online and is indexed and fully searchable. This presentation will explore the history of the project, how to search for places, special search features, how to use the maps, find surrounding parishes and civil registry office, strategies for searching, and other features.
Doctor Juengling received his bachelor's degree in German Studies and Secondary Education at Western Oregon University, his Master's and Doctorate in Germanic Philology with minors in English and Linguistices at the University of Minnesota. Germanic Philology is a highly specialized field of sutdy, combining languages, linguistics, paleography and history. For his graduate degrees, Dr. Juengling was required to demonstrate competence in English, German, Medieval Latin and two other modern languages. He chose Dutch and Norwegian. He also took courses in Old, Middle, and Early Modern English, Old and Middle High German, Old Norse (Old Icelandic), Gothic, Old Frisian, Old Saxon, and Middle Dutch. He has taught German, English, Latin, and Old English (Anglo-Saxon) at the high school and university levels.
He is an Accredited Genealogist for Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden through the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists, and certified by Verband deutschsprachiger Berufsgenealogen. Dr. Juengling is a German, Dutch, and Scandinavian Research Consultant at the Family History library in Salt Lake City, Utah.
